Responsible for splicing and terminating fiber optic cables (traditional and micro) in both outdoor and indoor settings. For new and existing builds.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Splice and terminate fiber optic cables in both outdoor and indoor settings.
• Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic cables as needed.
• Maintain accurate records of splicing and testing activities.
• Splice and repair fiber optic cables using single and mass fusion equipment.
• Terminate fiber with pig tails or Unicam components.
• Test fiber using Optical Time Domain (OTDR) or power meter and light source, testing with a light identifier.
• Install required splice cases and hardware.
• Assist in emergency restoration as needed.
• Perform mid sheath openings as needed.
• Maintain existing plant without causing signal failure interruptions.
• Maintain test documentation.
• Maintain project tracking information (production sheets, time sheets, and customer required paperwork).
• Maintain Testing, Splice equipment, trailers, and vehicles.
• Proficient at completing certification testing of fiber optic systems.
• Keep a safe working environment.
• Proficient in the use of all test and splicing equipment.
• Read and interpret existing fiber records, on maps or in the field using Staking Sheet, GIS, or other software.
• Participate in company sales program.
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Splice fiber optic cables, both traditional and micro
• Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to a laptop computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment for single and ribbon fiber.
• Read and interpret existing fiber records, on maps or in the field.
• Construct proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
• Able to troubleshoot and resolve problems discovered on the job.
• Follow design engineer instructions.
• Work independently or part of a team with minimal guidance
• Travel when needed.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Two years splicing experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
