Instead of making the customer come to him, he envisioned his team going directly to the customer, Their time, their space, their dime. He knew in developing the brand that using an icon can be extremely impactful and would help put a face to the name Bug Tussel.
Enter Buford J. Tussel, the orange Bug. Similar strategy has been used successfully by companies like Kellogg, Jack in the Box, and Aflac. Steve Schneider believes that people identify with images and personalities. Bug Tussel, with the help of a branding agency, created Bug Tussel’s mascot/icon, Buford J. Tussel. Buford is the spokes bug and helps to spark interest, makes customers smile, attends community events, and assists in delivering the corporate vision and mission. Buford can’t be everywhere at all times which is why Bug Tussel hires Regional Representatives who live in or near the coverage areas they service, customers can contact Bug Tussel through any one of the Regional Representatives or through Customer Service. A Bug Tussel representative will go to a customer’s location, conduct a signal check, and in some cases, do the install the same day.
