Bug Tussel Expands Fiber Network in Taylor County, Surpassing 100 Miles of Live Fiber
MEDFORD, Wis. (January 9, 2026) – Bug Tussel announced today that approximately 110 miles of fiber optic cable went live in December 2025 throughout Taylor County, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between Bug Tussel and Taylor County to expand high-speed internet access across the region.
The newly activated fiber infrastructure passes approximately 468 homes, providing approximately 1,600 Taylor County residents with the opportunity to connect to high-speed fiber internet service. This expansion brings the total live fiber in the county to nearly 130 miles, passing 780 homes and providing approximately 1,800 residents with access to fiber connectivity.
The December deployment extends coverage across western and central Taylor County. Additional fiber infrastructure that has been live for some time continues to serve residents in eastern Taylor County.
Through its fiber network, Bug Tussel offers internet speeds of up to 2 Gbps, providing Taylor County residents with access to some of the fastest internet connections available.
The fiber expansion is part of a comprehensive infrastructure buildout that began in 2022 when Bug Tussel and Taylor County entered into a partnership to deploy both fiber and wireless infrastructure. In addition to the fiber network, Bug Tussel operates nine fixed wireless sites throughout the county, which provide broadband internet access to an additional 3,300 homes, giving approximately 7,600 more residents the opportunity to connect to service.
Combined, Bug Tussel’s fiber and wireless infrastructure now reaches 4,000 homes across Taylor County, providing approximately 9,400 residents with the opportunity to access high-speed internet service.
Bug Tussel expects to conduct additional infrastructure work in Taylor County in the future as part of the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program.
