NEW DENMARK, Wis. (March 21, 2025) – Bug Tussel has begun fiber construction in Southeastern Brown County, working to advance high-speed internet access for residents of New Denmark, Eaton, and surrounding areas. Construction in these areas began on March 1 and is part of a larger expansion effort to provide reliable broadband to underserved and
unserved Brown County communities. Bug Tussel is building 250 miles of fiber and 4 wireless sites across the county to deliver fast, dependable internet to homes and businesses. The project has passed nearly 2,000 homes with live high-speed wireless service and is expected to pass 3,000 additional homes with fiber and wireless service upon completion.

What to Expect During Construction

As part of the fiber build in the New Denmark and Eaton areas, crews are installing conduit cable underground, with some areas requiring additional utility work. Construction occurs in the right-of-way, and residents may experience temporary disruptions such as noise, excavation, increased vehicle traffic, and occasional short-term lane closures. Bug Tussel works closely with underground utility location services to minimize impacts, though minor disruptions may still occur. In the event of property disturbance, crews will return to restore disrupted areas once construction is complete. Residents should report damage to Bug Tussel at 1-877-227-0924 or btussel.com.

Conduit construction in a small neighborhood typically takes 2-3 weeks. However, weather, ground conditions, equipment performance, supply delays, and other unforeseen circumstances can impact timelines. During construction, crews will install conduit underground to prepare for future fiber deployment. Once construction is complete, teams will install fiber inside the conduit, splice fiber sections together, and connect the network to power and service hubs before fiber service can go live. Residents should note that after seeing construction in their neighborhood, it may take several months—sometimes over a year—before fiber service is fully live and available for installation.
