APPLETON, Wis. (August 21, 2025) – Over 25 miles of backbone fiber optic network have been activated in northwest Outagamie County, bringing approximately 250 previously underserved homes, businesses, and institutions within reach of high-speed internet connectivity. The new backbone fiber infrastructure extends service capabilities up to 2 Gbps to the Village of Bear Creek and areas north of the City of New London, creating potential for future fiber-to-the-home expansion.

“We’re proud to extend reliable, ultra-fast internet service to the Bear Creek and New London areas through our ongoing partnership with Outagamie County,” said Bug Tussel Executive Director of Public Affairs, Scott Feldt. “These residents and businesses now have access to the same high-quality connectivity that supports remote work, online education, telehealth services, and entertainment streaming that urban areas have long enjoyed.”

This latest expansion builds on Bug Tussel’s momentum following the July activation of over 50 miles of fiber in northeast Outagamie County, which brought service to nearly 750 locations across five communities. Construction continues on an additional 100 miles of fiber infrastructure in southern Outagamie County as part of the ongoing countywide expansion. The comprehensive backbone deployment launched in 2023 specifically targets unserved and underserved areas while supporting critical county infrastructure and emergency services, establishing the foundation for potential future fiber-to-the-home expansion.

When complete, the fiber network is anticipated to span nearly 180 miles across Outagamie County, with additional service provided by fixed wireless sites. The comprehensive network expansion is expected to provide high-speed internet access to nearly 7,000 locations countywide, effectively bridging the digital divide for rural communities throughout the region.
