Over 40 Miles of High-Speed Fiber Internet Now Live in Lake Mills
Bug Tussel Brings 2 Gbps Fiber Access to 580 New Homes and Businesses
LAKE MILLS, Wis. (November 18, 2025) – Bug Tussel has reached a major broadband milestone in Jefferson County with the activation of more than 40 miles of new high-speed fiber in the Lake Mills area. This expansion brings 2 Gbps fiber access to approximately 580 additional homes and businesses, representing an estimated 1,300 residents. Combined with the recent lighting of 20 miles in Jefferson earlier this month, Bug Tussel’s fiber network in Jefferson County now spans roughly 140 miles.
The new fiber routes extend outward from the Lake Mills area in several directions. Residents located along County Road G toward Faville Grove Sanctuary, County Road B toward Johnson Creek, and County Road A toward Lake Ripley can sign up immediately by calling 1-877-227-0924 or visiting btussel.com.
This investment strengthens the countywide middle-mile backbone, creating an open-access framework designed to support future fiber expansion throughout Jefferson County. The network will serve as critical infrastructure for last-mile development through the federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Program.
To date, Bug Tussel’s fiber and wireless infrastructure has expanded broadband access to approximately 4,000 Jefferson County homes and businesses, representing an estimated 9,500 residents, a milestone made possible through strong collaboration with Jefferson County leaders.
“Lighting this fiber isn’t just a construction milestone—it’s a commitment fulfilled,” said Melody Johnson, Director of Community Affairs at Bug Tussel. “With every new neighborhood we connect, Jefferson County becomes stronger, more vibrant, and better equipped for the future. We’re proud to stand with the county in expanding opportunity, access, and innovation for the people who live and work here.”
