Marathon County Fiber Project Completes Second Major Phase with 400+ Additional Connections
MOSINEE, Wis. (August 22, 2025) – Nearly 70 miles of fiber infrastructure in Mosinee’s Leather Camp forest area are now live, connecting 400 previously underserved Marathon County homes, businesses and institutions to high-speed internet service. The fiber service offers speeds of up to 2 Gbps.
The 70-mile route connects with another 20 miles that went live last month. Combined, the completed 90-mile deployment now provides fiber-to-the-home service to approximately 600 Marathon County locations in the Leather Camp area. The newly activated 70-mile network serves residents west of County Road X in Kronenwetter Village and the Town of Knowlton.
“Completing this 90-mile project in Leather Camp represents a major step forward in our mission to reach the forgotten places,” says Scott Feldt, Executive Director of Public Affairs at Bug Tussel. “Our ongoing partnership with Marathon County continues to be essential in bridging the digital divide across Marathon County.”
The newly activated 70-mile network extends fiber service across Marathon County as part of Bug Tussel’s broadband Marathon County partnership, which has brought over 130 miles of backbone middle-mile fiber to over 1,200 Marathon County locations to date. Construction continues on another 30 miles of first-phase fiber backbone, with Bug Tussel anticipating the completed network will reach approximately 1,500 locations across multiple townships and villages.
This expanded connectivity enables reliable work-from-home capabilities, seamless 4K streaming, robust support for home-based businesses, and improved access to telehealth and educational resources. Bug Tussel has also deployed county-wide fixed wireless service across 16 towers to provide internet access during ongoing fiber construction. Service is available immediately to newly connected locations. Residents can sign up by calling 1-877-227-0924 or visiting btussel.com.
